MIDI events
From N-Track Wiki
A MIDI event is one command (message) in MIDI format. For instance, a very basic MIDI event may say "Strike middle C key at velocity 65". Many times MIDI is recorded in a sequence in a sequencer. This takes a large number of MIDI events and puts them in a sequential order for later playback. So for a song like Mary Had a Little Lamb, a sequence may be the commands to trigger E, then D, then C, C, C etc. on a synthesizer.
MIDI events can also be used to trigger many other things. Perhaps you have a reverb unit that understands MIDI commands. In your MIDI sequence you can create continuous controller events that turn the reverb up during the verse and turn it down during the chorus.
